possible education furthering

I am happy to report that the possibility of doing more educational studies looks incrasingly positive.
With an invitation to an open day at the local city university and a course in mind I really look forward to getting my teeth into the science of computing – having nearly finised an MSc – Multimedia – I have rally enjoyed goin gback into FE as an adult learner.

The difference of motivation is clear. When you want to learn it really helps drive you forward…

I am keen to begin gainning the qualifications to lecture – and as such embark and engage myself with the process of study and life change neccessary to achieve that. I dearly want to gain a phd – though at this stage the specific focus is not clear – within computer science – but first some solid work needs be done. I have a few days left of my last MSc module and then dissertation.

Fingers crossed I get that pass I need to progress, if I do then its onwards to Doctoral study and Rsearch Associate.

Maybee even foreign climes – OSlo, Tolouse who knows where I can go..

all is well that is referenced

Interesting how when we reference things we give them some degree of providence. Also the act of referencing is a tacit sign that we are honouring the original author as well as the academic practice of research.

This can be taken into a wider context and expanded to include the referencing of thought processes – if we always are mindful of the origin of our thought then we build up a kind of reference system (much like a librarian) of what we are thinking and in knowing this w become more honest of our actions because we understand why we have done them - due to our internal referencing.

It s left field this blog but I’M BORED AND SO MY MIND WANDERS – but why did I get bored in the first place? Well, referencing my thought I am aware that it’s because I have not motivated or engaged myself in my daily tasks of work. Or more precisely I thought I had something better to do and so the genesis of the thought that I was bored grew up until I found an outlet for it – which is this blog post.

any how that’s enough random thought for now…

it aint new but – Open Source is the way forward

I now I am not really pushing the envelope here, but open source has got to be the best way forward for individuals and businesses.

- pluses are that there is a wealth of support from developer communities..
- no licence tie ins’ and zero cost to use
- the internet as it was meant to be….
- and also highly scaleable in terms of possible new developments

Think Joomla, Drupal all excellenent CMS’s and used by soemthing like 2.3% of the worlds’ websites…no mean feat!

What I wonder is whether we will get the dev of application software that can compete with proprietry soft apps like adobe/microsoft etc that is as comprehensive and powerfully dynamic – probably not for a while.

But if you havn’t tried GIMP image manipulation soft its worth a go – but unfortunatley we are a long way off having a free open souce App like After Effects or Dreamweaver – oh well.

What is interesting is is as the internet market place firms up and the front end developers become less niche (not yet applicable to web dev) there is the development of easy to use third party WYSIWYG web design sites – really this is a new product semantic and maybe deskills the market place as everyone can now drag and drop to achive pro looking results.

lets hope there is a more joined up approach to web dev languages in the futer so newcomers like me dont have to learn ten diferent frameworks just to get started…!

Funny how things come round full circle – but after just reading my very old posts I have come about 360degrees… excellent, I am now fully employed working in a medium I enjoy and have potential with and am fully healthy – times have never been so good.

Conections need follow through

ok – so its Social Media related but also applies to personal face to face communications. What is the issue here? really what I am saying is that the problem with social media channels is that the workplace environment is really a catch all dead end – sure you can upload whatever you wish to say (for the view of millions) but where does that leave you? I think it leaves me dissempowered; mainly becuase I want a complete conversation with the other party or person not just a one way push communication – I don’t need to advertise myslef to people!

So the best form of communication has got to have the following:

- its got to be recirprocal immeadiately

- it got to be possible to expand the communication

the best form of the above? a telephone conversation..after all if you start with a telephone call you can always expand with a follow up email etc etc.

I’m drowning in Social Media…!

ok – I know its a little ironic that I’m writting this on a blog but its wednesday night and I am away from my home diary.

Is it just me or are we seeing on the web that everybody is now a social media guru – it seems that way to me. What with things like this and all the other wen 2.0 apps I am drowning in communication. There is a serious point to this not just me moaning.

It is something like a self fulfilling prophecy that the more communications consultants there are the more market noise there is and thus the more the need for consultants, not a bad thing for you if you are a consltant! but seriously you gotta really be precice today to communicate a message directly to the potential end customer – bypassing the competition.

Does social media offer this? I don’t think so neccessarily, it is becoming really no more than excess billboard space – and we will all be sick when the internet looses its novelty becuase of the mass of advertising on it.

Menatal Wealth = Mental Health

I may be being a bit flippant but its true, the more you empower yourself with positive mental thought processes the better you think; that is the better perspective you can give yourslef. Being balanced, happy and motivated are the key foundations to building a happy future – in work, at home with others..

I have given myself a fair share of challenges (what I used to call problems), but with a structured approach to developing mental wealth I can achieve nearly all I desire, and morde than this what I desire is affordable, realistic and healthy. Why not employ the effort needed to get happy, sources of this way of thinking include Buddhism, Taoism, Christan thought,Neuro Linguistic Programming as well as other peoples experiences.

I had had enough of constantly being in want…now I get what I need, need what I get and best of all – this is all scaleable so as my progressive happiness occurrs so I get the boon of more ‘things’.
